USC lecture targets sights, sounds of Gettysburg | Arts & Culture

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A University of South Carolina history professor is taking listeners back to the battlefield of Gettysburg to help them experience one of the turning points of the Civil War.
    
University distinguished professor Mark Smith on Thursday is set to discuss what soldiers and civilians saw and heard during the bloodiest battle of the conflict. Smith is the author of "Listening To Nineteenth-Century America," which focuses on how people experience history through the senses.
    
Smith's talk is at 5:30 p.m. in the Campus Room of the Capstone House on campus.
