USC Graduate develops seat-tagging app | Business
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Do you want to know where your friends are sitting at the South Carolina-Florida game this weekend? Or are you going to the bowl game and you want to find out if your friends are going, too?
A University of South Carolina graduate has created a program, and soon to be, app for that.
Just in time for fans to use for the Gamecocks game against Florida Saturday, TagSeats is available, created by USC graduate and Columbia resident Jack Dietrich.
Fans can create a profile at TagSeats.com or connect their Facebook accounts. Dietrich plans future features such as an in-stadium group chat, tailgating maps with GPS, and a ticket-swapping system.
TagSeats will be launching for NFL events this month, initially for Miami Dolphins’ games, and soon adding the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons home games.
Dietrich, the Founder and CEO of TagSeats, had the idea for the startup while completing his law and MBA degrees at the University of South Carolina and attending football games. “I was planning a trip to the SEC Championship in 2010, and didn’t have a simple way to see which of my friends were going or find tickets near them.”
Dietrich pitched his idea and built a small team of web developers at a weekend hackathon in 2011, called Charlotte Startup Weekend. His team won second place in the competition. The TagSeats team includes Clemson University and College of Charleston graduates, however, Dietrich, who also received his undergraduate degree from the Moore School of Business, decided to focus on USC games for the tech startup’s initial launch.
“I set out to solve a problem that I had as a Gamecock fan," Dietrich said. "Our early feedback indicates that our fan base is overwhelmingly excited to be the first to access TagSeats.”
