Cardinal Newman School Dance Marathon exceeded its $20,000 goal and raised $31,213 for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. Hundreds of students danced to two live bands and a DJ, and they played games and made crafts to stay on their feet for the eight -hour marathon. Students hosted a garage sale and a bake sale, and they secured sponsors to raise the funds.
“I am enormously proud of and excited for our students,” said Cardinal Newman Principal Jacqualine Kasprowski. “They have worked extremely hard for months to achieve their goal and make a positive difference in our community. We may be a small school, but we surely can produce amazing results!”
Cardinal Newman was the first school in the state to partner with the USC Dance Marathon (USCDM) last year and the first junior high/high school in the Midlands to do so. The USCDM Executive Committee has spent the last five months working with Cardinal Newman students to help them plan and execute the event. USCDM started fourteen years ago and is the largest student-run philanthropy in South Carolina.
With origins dating to 1858, Cardinal Newman School, a diocesan, coeducational, college preparatory secondary school serving grades 7 through 12, exists for the purpose of providing Catholic education of the highest quality to children of residents of the greater Columbia community. With an emphasis on the Catholic tradition of education - strong academics, a dedication to service, and traditional Catholic, Christian values, Cardinal Newman School provides a safe and structured environment, which challenges all students to achieve personal excellence in every way. Inspired by the community belief in divine providence and love, Cardinal Newman Students will become self-disciplined learners who also demonstrate respect, integrity, responsibility and a sense of justice as they prepare to live lives of truth, integrity and fidelity – VERITAS, INTEGRITAS, FIDELITAS
