Parade, step show part of Homecoming events | Community Spirit
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Expect traffic delays downtown Friday as the University of South Carolina celebrates Homecoming with its annual parade.
The parade starts at 3 p.m. Friday with a new route. It starts at the intramural field on Greene Street, floats turn left onto Lincoln Street, right onto Senate, right onto Park Street, left onto Pendleton, right onto Sumter and finish at the Horseshoe.
In addition, Henrie Monteith Treadwell and James Solomon, two of the first African-American students at USC, will participate in the parade as part of an ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the university’s desegregation.
At 7 p.m. NPHC fraternities and sororities compete in the annual Step Show at Carolina Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the university will honor the memory of members of the Carolina community who have passed away in the last year at the USC Homecoming Service of Remembrance at 8:30 a.m. at Rutledge Chapel, located on the Horseshoe.
Homecoming Week culminates as the Gamecocks face the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kick-off is set for 12:21 p.m.
