Gamecocks improve in AP Top 25 College Football Poll | News
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS/AP)- A win over in-state rival Clemson Saturday lifted the University of South Carolina in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll.
After the 27-17 win at Memorial Stadium Saturday night, the (10-2, 6-2 SEC) Gamecocks improved from 13th to 11th in the college football rankings. Clemson dropped in the poll from 12th to 15th.
USC improved from 12th to 10th in the USA Today/ESPN Coach's poll.
Notre Dame is No.1 with nothing left to do but wait to find out who its opponent in the national championship game will be.
No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia, both easy winners in rivalry games Saturday, held their spots in the rankings and will play for the SEC title in Atlanta next weekend.
Ohio State remained No. 4 after completing its perfect season with a victory against Michigan. The Buckeyes (12-0) are banned from the postseason because of NCAA sanctions.
Florida, Oregon, Kansas St., Stanford, LSU and Texas A&M round out the top ten.
Toward the bottom of the rankings, there was plenty of movement. Ten Top 25 teams lost this weekend, the most since Oct. 11, 2003.
