Single game tickets sold out for Clemson, Florida games | News
Single game tickets for both the Florida and Clemson football contests are sold out. Tickets for those games are still available as part of a limited amount of season ticket packages that remain on sale.
During Monday's single-game ticket sale opportunity to Gamecock Cluib members, 5,000 tickets were sold in the first 15 minutes of the sale. To date, 51,500 season tickets have been sold for Gamecock football, the most since 2008.
The frenzy to buy tickets caused major delays for those using Ticketmaster's online service. Many tried for an hour or more to log in to purchase seats. Others reported being kicked off the system when trying to check out.
The athletic department fielded several angry questions and comments on social media. "Unfortunately with such a high volume of people accessing the system it was very difficult to get through today. Very sorry!" wrote a representative for the athletics department on Twitter.
"We are very appreciative of our fans supporting Coach Spurrier and our football team to this level," Athletics Director Ray Tanner said. "We are in the midst of the greatest era in Gamecock football history and the pre-season polls have us continuing that success this season. It is definitely great to be a Gamecock!"
The Gamecocks are ranked No. 7 entering the 2013 campaign in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 preseason coaches poll.
The Gamecocks finished the 2012 season with an 11-2 record for the second-straight year. They were ranked seventh in the final Coaches' poll, their highest finish in school history.
South Carolina begins the 2013 season on Aug. 29, when it hosts North Carolina in the season opener. That contest will kick off at 6 p.m., and be televised on ESPN.
Season tickets can be purchased by calling (800) 4SC-FANS, or by visiting GamecocksOnline.com/Football2013.
All ticket options that are left go on sale to the general public on Monday, August 19 at 10 a.m.
