South Carolina Track Earns 20 Bids to NCAA East Preliminary

Declarations for the NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships have been announced with South Carolina earning 20 entries into the meet. The event is scheduled to be held May 23-25 at the Irwin Beck Track inside of Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.

Gamecocks Set to Tee Off at NCAA Columbus Regional

The 20th-ranked South Carolina men’s golf team will open play in the NCAA Columbus Regional on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, with a berth to the NCAA Championship on the line.

The 54-hole event runs through Saturday at the par-71, 7,286-yard Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The Gamecocks, who enter the regional as the No. 4 seed, will compete against 12 teams for one of five spots available to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 28-June 2 at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Ga.

Track & Field Begins SEC Outdoor Championships

The Gamecock track and field team travels to the SEC’s other Columbia for 2013 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, slated for May 9-12 at the University of Missouri’s Audrey J. Walton Stadium.

All of the action begins on Thursday, but the long Gamecock event of the day is the men’s hammer throw at 3 p.m. ET. On Friday, South Carolina’s day again starts at 3 p.m. ET, with the women’s hammer throw before running events kick off at 7:15 p.m. ET. Saturday and Sunday, the day’s events begin at 2 p.m. ET.

South Carolina senior Breanna Radford and sophomore Damiere Byrd received recognition on the 2013 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for track and field and cross country, the league announced Tuesday.

Hill Accepts Head Coaching Position at Elon

South Carolina associate men’s head golf coach Don Hill has accepted the head coaching position at Elon University, Elon Athletics Director Dave Blank announced Monday.

Hill takes over for longtime Phoenix coach Bill Morningstar, who retired after 41 years with the school.

Gamecocks Receive Bid to NCAA Columbus Regional

The 20th-ranked South Carolina men’s golf team has earned a bid to play in the NCAA Columbus Regional on May 16-18 in Columbus, Ohio, the NCAA announced Monday night.

The Gamecocks received the No. 4 seed and will compete against 12 teams on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club. Ten individuals will also play for medalist honors. Five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be held on May 28-June 2 at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Ga.

Inabinet, Johnson, Strickland and Yates Recognized for Achievement

Four seniors from the University of South Carolina football team have been named to the 2013 Hampshire Honor Society presented by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).

Representing the Gamecocks are Walker Inabinet, T.J. Johnson, Seth Strickland and Adam Yates.
